PORTLAND, Ore.– As part of the Concordia University Service Plunge, an event that allowed the Concordia community to serve alongside 10 different northeast community organizations that are making a significant impact in the area, the Cavalier women’s basketball team volunteered at the Blanchet House last Saturday.

The Blanchet House of Hospitality, located at 340 NW Glisan Street, has been serving meals and providing temporary lodging and job referral to Portland's homeless community since 1952. Since its inception, the House has served over seventeen million hot meals, provided over one million night's lodging, distributed over 800,000 items of clothing and filled over 120,000 temporary jobs.

Members of the Concordia team team were asked to cut vegetables, clean tables, and mop floors prior to the meal. During the meal various team members were able to dish up the meal, serve, wait on tables and clean up the dishes.

“It was a great experience for our team and it was great to see our players volunteering in their community,” Concordia head coach Aaron Christian said. “I was really proud of how our team members jumped in whenever help was needed and made the process go very smoothly. I am really proud of this team and their willingness to give their time. They all did a fabulous job.”
