BOX SCORE

BURNABY, B.C. – Following wins in four of its past five games, Corban's women's soccer team traveled out of the country for the only time this season and fell to the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at Terry Fox Field.

In its final non-conference game of the regular season, Corban fell behind in the 18th minute on a goal by SFU's Chanelle Bradshaw. Bradshaw's eventual game-winning goal beat the Warriors' keeper short side after senior net-minder Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) was unable to control a long shot from the Clans' Ari Adams.

Simon Fraser added a second goal near the end of the first half in the 37th minute, when defender Natalie Fabbro began a run by sending a pass up the left side. Sarah Boulton provided a screen on the pass for Aly Benes, who crossed the field parallel to the goal, then sent a feed to Lauren Lachlan. Lachlan immediately fired a shot from 25-yards out, beating Allen high, for her first goal of the season.

Play was again controlled by the Clan in the second half, as Corban did not register its first shot of the game until the 68th minute. SFU's keeper Cassie Newbrook almost made a critical error in the 71st minute when she handled a ball outside the 18-yard box, allowing Corban a free kick from 20 yards out. Sophomore Katie Hanson (Salem, Ore.) took the free kick from just outside the penalty box, but the second-year Warriors' shot was blocked by a Clan defender therefore thwarting any Corban scoring opportunity.

Adams then added her first goal of the season and notched her third point of the game in the 90th minute, scoring on a penalty kick to the lower left corner of the net after Benes was hauled down in the box, to give SFU the final margin of three goals.

Allen registered a game-high three saves for the Warriors, while SFU's Newbrook earned the victory by making a mere one save en route to earning the shutout.

With the loss, Corban falls to 5-6-0 compared to Simon Fraser's overall record of 8-2-0. The Warriors will take the field once again on Saturday, October 4th, when they return to Cascade Collegiate Conference play against the Knights of Warner Pacific beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Portland.
