BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Corban junior Jared Rust (Palo Cedro, Calif.) netted his first goal as a Warrior in the 56th minute, but Corban's men's soccer team fell to the visiting ‘Yotes of The College of Idaho, 2-1, in Saturday’s mid afternoon conference match-up at Warrior Field.

The College of Idaho offense started the game strong, as ‘Yotes midfielder Antonio Bautista found the net in the second minute of play on a through ball by Esteban Cabrera to give C of I the early lead. The College of Idaho out-shot the Warriors by seven (10-3) in the half, but Corban’s defense was able to keep the ‘Yotes contained for the rest of the period as C of I carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Corban ‘s offense stepped up the attack in the second period, as Rust was able to control a high header from junior Kaleb Herring (Waco, Texas) and find the net through a crowd from 18 yards in the 56th minute to knot the score.

However, The College of Idaho was able to answer in the very next minute, as Bautista buried a point blank shot off an assist by Garga Caserta to restore the lead for the ‘Yotes.

The Warriors continued their offensive pressure, firing seven second-half shots compared to six for C of I. Unfortunately, Bautista’s second proved to be the game-winner, as the ‘Yotes claimed the one-goal victory at the end of regulation.

Corban junior goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) snared five saves in a complete-game effort. Meanwhile, C of I’s keeper Aaron Reynolds also tallied five saves while minding the net for all 90 minutes.

With the loss, Corban falls to 4-8-1 overall, including 2-5-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho improves to 9-2-1 overall and remains undefeated in CCC play with an 8-0-0 record. The Warriors will take the pitch again on Thursday, October 16th, when they travel to Eugene to take on the Beacons of Northwest Christian in a conference confrontation scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
