CCC Players of the Week Named in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Golf

The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Oct. 6-12.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – College of Idaho senior Antonio Bautista (Homedale, Idaho), who ranks among the NAIA’s scoring leaders, scored all four of C of I’s goals as the Yotes posted victories over Cascade and Corban. Bautista’s scoring outburst helped the Yotes extend their win streak to eight in addition to clinching a share of the CCC’s South Division title. Other nominees: Matt Curry, Evergreen; Luke Fischer, Northwest; Bryan Iotte, Concordia; Chris Smerke, Cascade.

Defensive – College of Idaho freshman Aaron Reynolds (Boise, Idaho) posted a total of nine saves as the Yotes extended their win streak to eight and clinched a share of the CCC’s South Division crown with 2-1 victories over Cascade and Corban. Other nominees: Lucas Egenwall, Concordia.


Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Southern Oregon freshman Katie Griffith (Mount Vernon, Wash.) had one goal and one assist to help the Raiders to victories over Evergreen (1-0) and Northwest (2-0). Other nominees: Heather Henderson, Northwest Christian; Janelle Stoner, Oregon Tech; Marissa Walter, Corban.

Defensive – Corban senior Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) helped the Warriors to a 1-0-1 record last week, as the 5-8 goalkeeper totaled a combined 12 saves in 200 minutes. She extended her scoreless streak to 268-plus minutes with back-to-back shutouts vs. Eastern Oregon (4-0) and College of Idaho (0-0). Other nominees: Georgie Christensen, Concordia; Sonya Daisley-Harrison, Evergreen; Sadie Hughes, College of Idaho; Jessica Kuehlwien, Southern Oregon; Katelyn Nistler, Northwest Christian.


Golf

Male – Northwest Christian junior Justin Ahrens (Eugene, Ore.) won the individual title at the College of Idaho Invitational, firing a three-round total of 215. Ahrens broke school marks for single round (68) and three-round tournament total (215). Other nominees: Joey Duwe, Corban.

Female – Concordia junior Lindsay Aho (Brush Prairie, Wash.) is the CCC’s top player for the third time in four weeks. Aho captured her second tournament title of the fall season with an 18-stroke win at the College of Idaho Invitational. Concordia won its second team title, as Aho averaged an impressive 74.3 strokes per round. Other nominees: Cecilia Garcia, College of Idaho; Ashley King, Northwest Christian; Morgan McComish, Corban.


Volleyball

Player – Corban senior outside hitter Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) totaled a team-high 27 kills to go along with five assists and 22 digs as the Warriors went 2-0. Davenport also registered three service aces and six blocks in helping Corban to wins over Concordia and Northwest Christian. Other nominees: Cassie Bishop, Northwest Christian; Sarah Buhler, College of Idaho; Grace Deboodt, Eastern Oregon; Krista Wooley, Oregon Tech; Mia Wortel, Southern Oregon.

Libero – College of Idaho sophomore Whitney Owen (Caldwell, Idaho) earned the honor for the third consecutive week after setting a career best with 25 digs in a narrow loss to No. 11 Lewis-Clark State. In three matches, Owen totaled 59 digs as the Yotes posted a 2-1 record. Other nominees: Annie Forman, Evergreen; Mercedes LeClaire, Northwest Christian; Kim Lindow, Concordia; Maggie Rivers, Southern Oregon; Sareena Simpson, Eastern Oregon.

Setter – Southern Oregon junior Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore.) earned top setter honors for the fifth consecutive week. The 2007 All-American averaged 34 assists in addition to recording nine digs, four kills and two service aces as the Raiders extended their win streak to 10 straight with wins over Northwest and Evergreen. Other nominees: Whitney Hoff, Northwest Christian; Skyler Kamaka, Concordia; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Naomi Reimer, College of Idaho; Amy Thompson, Corban.


Cross Country

Male – Cascade freshman Andrew Schmidt (Yakima, Wash.) captured the honor for the second time this season. Schmidt won the individual title at the Warner Pacific/Cascade Invitational, posting a time of 25:52 over the eight-kilometer course. Other nominees: Caleb Goins, Corban; Brian Rakestraw, Evergreen.

Female – Corban junior Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.) helped lead the Warriors to their first team crown of the season, as they captured the title at the Warner Pacific/Cascade Invitational. Moller led a contingent of four Corban runners that finished in the top five, clocking a time of 18:46 over the 5K course to finish second among a field of 48. Other nominees: Ana Casillas, Evergreen.
