BEAVERTON, Ore.—Watching 10 seniors being honored before the game, the rest of the Concordia men’s soccer team took notice and stole the show to combine for six goals in a 7-0 win against Oregon Tech on Friday night.

With the win, the team’s sixth straight, Concordia improved to 11-4-1 overall and 8-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Oregon Tech dropped to 3-10-1 overall and 2-6-0 in league action.

“I thought OIT worked very hard, particularly in the first half, to prevent several of our attacks from ending in goals,” Concordia head coach Dan Birkey said. “It was good to see the response of the CU team after we had a chance to take a good look at ourselves at the half. The game opened up for us due to smarter decisions in both movement of the ball and our movement as an offensive unit.”

Junior forward Tyler Camp got the Cavs started in the 13th minute following a touch by Joey Graham. The Cavs would receive a tad of fortune with an unlucky bounce off a defender for an own goal charged against the Owls in the 29th minute to make it a 2-0 lead at intermission.

After taking 17 shots in the first period and producing just the single goal on heir own, 30 seconds into the second period, Camp converted with a successful penalty kick in the team’s first attempt of the second session for a 3-0 advantage.

In the 49th minute, Freshman Evan Denmark would use along-ranged one-timer to make it a 4-0 contest. The Cavs would ruffle the net on three more occasions in the next 10 minutes as Jon Larsen, Will Snow and Cesar Sanchez would penetrate the Owl defense for scores. The goals by Denmark, Snow and Sanchez would represent their first of the season for the Cavs.

“It takes a high degree of commitment and concentration to finish chances in the attack. We found that tonight and some high quality goals were manufactured,” Birkey said. Camp's half volley opener, Larsen's smashing header and Denny (Evan Denmark) on a first time cracker were among the best all year.”
For the match, Concordia outshot the Owls 30-to-3 and created 11 corner kick opportunities compared to a single attempt by OIT.

Unchallenged in net, the senior goalkeeping duo of Garrett Staples and Scot Perkins combined for the shutout.

Concordia returns to action on Oct. 21 when it travels to Corban College for a 3 p.m. match. OIT will stay in the Portland metro for a match against Cascade on Saturday.
