KIRKLAND, Wash. - A late second half goal helped Northwest U. earn its sixth shut out and seventh win of the season in a 1-0 victory over Corban College last night in an exciting finish.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie for over 89 minutes until Northwest U.'s Brittannique Clayberg (Soph., Snohomish, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) drilled a shot into the goal with just 38 seconds remaining in the game. Clayberg was 24 yards out and in the middle of the field when she scored the game winner. Clayberg also had the assist on the game winner against Warner Pacific in the 1-0 NU win on Friday. Northwest (7-4-2, 6-3 CCC) outshot Corban 11 to 5 with their defense holding Corban to 2 shots in the second half. Goalkeeper Jordan Holmes (Fresh., Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) earned the shutout with 2 saves in goal for Northwest.

Corban's (7-8-1, 4-3-1 CCC) goalie, Karyn Allen had 4 saves in goal for the Warriors. Jessica Matthews had two of the Corban shots and one shot on goal.

The seventh win for NU more than doubles their win output from a year ago when they managed only 3 victories, 10 losses and 4 ties.

"It was a total team effort tonight and I felt we dominated the game," commented head coach Erin Redwine. "We had some trouble finishing again as we missed some good early scoring opportunities, but our perseverance finally got the goal and Brittany Clayberg's shot came just in time and was something to behold."

Northwest plays its final regular season game next Friday at the Starfire Soccer complex against Northwest Christian University at 5:00 pm. Corban travels to Ashland, Oregon on October 24 to take on Southern Oregon in a 3 p.m. afternoon game.
