OIT's Ian Van Der Zwan scored his first goal of the year in Tech's 2-0 win over Corban.
Hustlin' Owls Shock Corban 2-0
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The Oregon Tech men’s soccer team evened up its Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) record at 2-2 by downing the Warriors of Corban College Wednesday night at Trevor Derrah Field, winning 2-0. With the win Tech improved to 3-6-1 on the season. Corban dropped to 2-3 in the CCC and 4-6-1 overall.
The two teams battled back and fourth for nearly 38 minutes before Oregon Tech penetrated the very tough Warrior defense when Ian Van Der Zwan broke through two Corban defenders, dribbling around both before sneaking his shot past a diving Corban goal keeper. The goal was the first of the season for Van Der Zwan. Tech went in at the half up 1-0 with momentum squarely on their side.
The Hustlin’ Owls didn’t have a let down to start the second half, scoring again just 5 minutes into the second half. Tech’s 2nd goal came as Ian Van Der Zwan was at it again, this time sending a great ball across the box to teammate Devin Torrey who shot and scored from 15 yards out to put Oregon Tech up to stay 2-0.
For the game, both teams had 9 shots on goal. Corban’s goalkeeper, Aaron Franklin, was credited with 7 saves in the loss with Tech’s Travis Billie getting 8 saves for the win. Corban had 10 corner kicks for the game with Tech having just 2. The Warriors were also whistled for 9 fouls to the Owl’s 3.
Oregon Tech will hit the road this weekend as they will play at the College of Idaho this Saturday, October 4th at 4:00 pm. The Oregon Tech women will play at Eastern Oregon Friday at 2:00 pm. They will also play at College of Idaho on Saturday at 1:00pm.
