CCC Players of the Week Named in Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Oct. 13-19.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia junior Jon Larsen (Sedro-Woolley, Wash.) was instrumental in the Cavs extending their win streak to six matches with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Evergreen. He also notched a goal and an assist against Oregon Tech to help Concordia to its ninth win in its last 10 contests. Other nominees: Mauricio Both, College of Idaho; Chris Senick, Northwest Christian.
Defensive – Northwest Christian junior Cuyler Ziegler (Roseburg, Ore.), who had not played in his team’s previous two games due to injury, registered seven saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Corban to lift the Beacons to their first conference victory of the season. Other nominees: Alex Penrod, College of Idaho; David Proud, Concordia.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Northwest sophomore forward Britannique Clayberg (Snohomish, Wash.) assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Warner Pacific and tallied the game-winning goal against Corban as the Eagles set a school record by posting their seventh win of the season. Other nominees: Kelly Clark, Southern Oregon; Kate Green, Evergreen; Katie O’Brien, Oregon Tech; Lauren Robideau, Eastern Oregon; Kaitlyn Tebbs, Concordia.
Defensive – Northwest freshman keeper Jordan Holmes (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) posted her third and fourth shutouts of the season as the Eagles turned back Warner Pacific and Corban by 1-0 scores. Holmes had a total of three saves. Other nominees: Sonya Daisley-Harrison, Evergreen; Tracy Diaz, College of Idaho; Jenna Peterson, Concordia.
Golf
Male – Concordia senior Marc Arima (Meridian, Idaho) shot a three-round total of four-over 220 at the Vikes Tournament hosted by University of Victoria. Arima finished 17th overall, posting rounds of 75-70-75 in a tournament that included five teams ranked in last year’s final NAIA Top 25 poll. Other nominees: Justin Ahrens, Northwest Christian.
Female – Concordia junior Kim Lindow (Gresham, Ore.), who also is this week’s volleyball Libero of the Week, earned the honor in women’s golf after placing third at the Vikes Shootout hosted by the University of Victoria. Lindow helped spur a comeback by the Cavs that ended in a team title for CU. The tourney featured three teams that were ranked in the top 20 of last year’s final NAIA poll. Other nominees: Ashley King, Northwest Christian.
Volleyball
Player – College of Idaho freshman Megan Spinks (Manteca, Calif.) averaged nearly four kills and more than a block per set as the Yotes knocked off No. 25-ranked Oregon Tech and No. 21 Southern Oregon. Other nominees: Megan Christensen, Oregon Tech; Grace Deboodt, Eastern Oregon; Raluca Dinca, Concordia; Kandice Gleaves, Evergreen; Rachel Gowen, Corban; Lauren Holtz, Northwest; Brooke Stribling, Northwest Christian; Mia Wortel, Southern Oregon.
Libero – Concordia junior Kim Lindow (Gresham, Ore.) recorded a career-high 39 digs against Evergreen and added 24 digs against Northwest as the Cavs posted a pair of CCC road wins. Lindow averaged 7.0 digs per set in the two matches. Other nominees: Rebecca Franke, Corban; Mercedes LeClaire, Northwest Christian; Whitney Owen, College of Idaho; Maggie Rivers, Southern Oregon; Sareena Simpson, Eastern Oregon.
Setter – Concordia freshman Skyler Kamaka (Kaneohe, Hawaii) had 43 and 41 assists, respectively, as the Cavs defeated Evergreen and Northwest. Kamaka also totaled 31 digs in the two matches, including 18 against Northwest. Other nominees: Whitney Hoff, Northwest Christian; Katie Huston, Evergreen; Lizzie Law, Oregon Tech; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Naomi Reimer, College of Idaho; Lindsey Stone, Southern Oregon; Amy Thompson, Corban.
Cross Country
Male – Northwest freshman Seth Bridges (Anderson Island, Wash.) earned the honor for the second time this season. At the CCC Preview Meet in Seattle, Bridges finished third in a field of 65 runners, timing 25:53 over the 8K course. Other nominees: Caleb Goins, Corban; Chris Grever, Concordia; Cameron Kreuz, Southern Oregon; Sam Robison, Northwest Christian; Paul Sartin, College of Idaho; Cam Starner, Eastern Oregon.
Female – College of Idaho sophomore Stephanie Helm (Challis, Idaho) earned the honor for the fourth time this season. Helm placed second overall at the Idaho State/Montana State Dual, finishing the 4K course in a time of 15:34 to break by more than a minute C of I’s school mark on ISU’s high altitude Centennial Course. The 39-runner field was comprised primarily of NCAA Division I competition. Other nominees: Stephanie Hescock, Northwest Christian; Carli Moller, Corban.
