PORTLAND, Ore.—Competing in his first career half marathon, former Concordia distance runner Tim Badley won the Run Like Hell Half Marathon in Portland last Saturday. Badley crossed the line in 1 hour, 8 minutes, 40 seconds for a 21-second win over runner-up Ian Nurse of Cambridge, Mass. Badley toured the 13.1-mile course at a rate of 5:14 per mile.

In his first season on the Concordia cross country coaching staff, Badleywas a two-time All-American athlete in track, after finishing fourth in the indoor 5,000-meter run and second in the outdoor 10,000 at the 2008 NAIA National Championships. He was also a four-time Cascade College Conference champion, twice in cross country (2005, 2006) and twice in the outdoor 5,000. He also helped lead the Cavalier team to a 2006 CCC cross country title and a 20th-place finish at the NAIA national championships.

“Tim showed today why we have thought for awhile that the marathon distance may be a great event for him,” Concordia head coach Randy Dalzell said. “He finished with some very fast miles and showed that he still had something left in the tank at this distance. A marathon may be in the plans for the future as we look at him qualifying for next Olympic Marathon Trials.”

Badley is currently serving as an assistant coach for  the Concordia cross country teams.
