NU Volleyball Gets a Win in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - The NU Eagles pulled out a hard fought 3-2 victory (25-21, 25-19, 18-25, 24-26, 15-9) over Northwest Christian U. in Eugene this afternoon in Cascade Conference play.

Madeleine Krahn (Sr., Hockinson, Wash.) led NU (9-14, 6-10) with 14 kills while freshman Anu Akamine (Hauula, Hawaii) had 11 kills and 10 defensive digs. Junior Libby Hellwig (Exeter, Calif.) had a game high 38 assists and 12 digs while libero Andrea Cotton (Jr., Kenmore, Wash.) had a game high 30 digs for the Eagles.

Brooke Stribling led Northwest Christian (11-13, 4-11) with a game high 21 kills and 26 defensive digs. Teammate Whitney Hoff had 22 digs and 27 assists for the Beacons.

"With great serving by Anu (Akamine) and Kacie (Simpson), great defense by Andrea Cotton and solid hitting by Lauren Holtz, Maddie Krahn, Kacie and Anu made it a total team effort tonight. It was great to get the win on the road, I'm proud of our team," stated coach Mary Cotton after the match.

The Eagles will remain on the road as they travel to Caldwell, Idaho on October 31 to play the College of Idaho.
