Owl Netters Handle Knights in 3
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The Oregon Tech volleyball squad dispatched of the Knights of Warner Pacific tonight in three sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-14) to improve to 18-4 overall and 13-3 in conference play. The Owls remain in a first place tie with College of Idaho in the CCC standings. Warner Pacific drops to 6-11 on the season and 4-11 in conference action.
Six kills for Tech's Krista Wooley and five for Megan Christensen in the first set sparked the Owls, as Tech jumped out to a lead of 15-9, on their way to a 25-15 win in set one.
The Owls looked to run away with set two, going ahead 15-9, but the Knights fought back to tie the set at 17-17 and eventually took a two point lead at 19-17 and 23-21. However, the Owls would string a four point run together, ending WPC's comeback bid and winning 25-23.
Set three saw the Owls jump up 6-1, but the Knights found a rhythm and reeled off six straight points to take a 7-6 lead. Tech's Nicole Andrews then got the hot hand, keying a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run to put the Knights away in the set 25-14.
Tech hit at a .265 clip to go along with their 6 blocks, versus the Knights .061hitting percentage and two total blocks on the night.
Krista Wooley once again led the Tech offense, tonight with a match high 14 kills followed by Megan Christensen with 12. Krystie Vea led the Owls with 13 digs, while setter Lizzie Law added 10 digs and 37 assists.
Kara Veach led the Knight attack with 9 kills, while Leah Gradwohl followed with 8. Setter Samantha Kolakowski finished with 23 assists while Gradwohl came up with a match high 15 digs in the loss.
Due to Oregon Tech's 25th Annual Blue & Gold Auction held tomorrow evening, The Owls will host Cascade College in CCC action tomorrow in a rare 1:00 pm start at Danny Miles Court. Warner Pacific travels to Ashland, as they face the Raiders at 7:00pm.
