Griffith's OT Goal Lifts SOU Past Corban
ASHLAND, Ore. -- Southern Oregon’s
Katie Griffith’s goal with 15 seconds remaining in the second overtime gave SOU a 2-1 victory over Corban today at University Field.
SOU improved to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in Cascade Conference play. Corban fell to 7-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference action. SOU hosts Warner Pacific Saturday at 3 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, the Warriors jumped on the board first in the second half as Genessa Neeser’s high-arching shot found the back of the goal for a 1-0 Corban lead. SOU wasted no time answering back as Chelsie O’Neill got a perfect pass from
Chelsey Muri and squeezed it past the Corban keeper from nine yards away.
The teams played even through the rest of regulation, the first overtime and almost the entire second overtime.
But with 15 seconds remaining, Griffith used a great individual move to put the ball in the wide open net for an SOU victory.
The Raiders finished with 10 shots on goal, while the Warriors finished with seven.
Freshman goalie
Jessica Kuehlwien finished with six saves for the Raiders.
