Owls Top Cascade
Klamath Falls, Ore. – After Oregon Tech survived a scare at Cascade only three weeks ago, the Owls made it look a little easier this afternoon, with a three set win over the Tbirds 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 30-28). The Owls remain in first place in the conference standings at 14-2 and are now 19-4 overall. CC drops to 1-15 in league play and 5-17 overall.
Oregon Tech jumped out to a quick 13-6 lead in set one before Cascade would call their first timeout. Tech then pushed the lead to double digits, the largest being 22-10, before cruising to a set one 25-15 win.
Set two saw the Tbirds get their first lead of the afternoon at 7-6 and would go up by as many as three points at 9-6 before an OIT timeout. Tech then came out of the huddle and rolled off six straight points to take a 12-9 lead. Cascade kept fighting and would eventually tie the set at 17-17, but the Owls remained in control to hold on for a 25-22 win.
The Owls could still not shake the Tbirds and saw CC double the score at 10-5 and 14-7, and eventually take a double digit lead of their own at 20-10 in the third set. Cascade was then on the verge of heading to set four, having a seven point advantage on Tech, when the wheels fell off. The Owls, down 24-16, held off eight straight Cascade set points to tie the match at 24-24 and another set point at 25-24, eventually taking their first lead of the third set at 26-25. Both teams traded points to see the set then tied at 28-28, before the Owls were able to get the next two in a row and secure the set and match at 30-28.
Krista Wooley once again led the Owl attack, today with 17 kills and 10 digs. Both Megan Christensen and Nicole Andrews finished with nine kills. Lizzie Law added 35 assists to her total and Krystie Vea finished with a match high 13 digs in the win.
Cascade received double digit kills by Natalie Forgan with 13 and Meagan Stanley getting 12. Carla Crowder finished with 29 assists for the Tbirds, while Forgan tallied a team high 11 digs.
The league championship will be on the line when the Owls travel to rival Southern Oregon University, who are one game in back of Tech in the win column, on Tuesday, October 28th. Match time is set for 7:00PM.
