Northwest U. Clinches Playoff Spot with Win over NCU
TUKWILA, Wash. – The Northwest University Eagles defeated Northwest Christian University, 2-0, for their eighth win and clinched a spot in the Cascade Conference playoffs tonight at the Starfire Soccer Stadium in Tukwila. The win maintains Northwest U.'s hold on second place in the CCC.
Northwest U. (8-4-2, 7-3 CCC) got on the scoreboard at 62:38 in the scond half on Abby Brauer’s (Fresh., Kent, Wash.) unassisted goal. Eagle forward Brittney Marshall (Jr., Monroe, Wash.) scored her sixth goal of the season 4 minutes later off an assist by teammate Britannique Clayberg (Soph., Snohomish, Wash.). Jordan Holmes earned the shutout in goal for the Eagles and made 2 saves on the evening. It was the eighth shutout for the Eagles which second in the CCC, Holmes' fifth on the year.
It was senior night for the Eagles as they recognized and honored seniors Shauna Marshall (Bothell, Wash.) and Gena Crock (Issaquah, Wash.) for their efforts and loyalty to the Northwest U. soccer team and the university.
"We got two quality goals from Abby Brauer and Brittney Marshall tonight," stated NU head coach Erin Redwine following the contest. "I felt we dominated the game and created a lot of goal scoring opportunities. The team fought hard for our seniors in their last home game tonight, we're in a good place and look forward to the first round of the playoffs," Redwine concluded.
Northwest Christian, outshot 25-6 and goalkeeper Katelyn Nistler had a game high 10 saves for the Beacons, seven in the second half.
