BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Mark Schubert (Yakima, Wash.) scored the first goal of his Warrior career in the 85th minute, as Corban's men's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Heading into today's game, there was a three-way tie for the third and final playoff spot out of the South Division between Corban, Northwest Christian, and Oregon Tech.

On Senior Recognition Day, a win would put the Warriors into the driver's seat with one week remaining in the regular season.

Oregon Tech got on the scoreboard first in the 18th minute when Jimme Hernandez flicked a shot from five yards out up over Corban's keeper for the game's opening goal.

The visiting Hustlin' Owls would hold the one-goal advantage until the 72nd minute when sophomore David Anderson (Salem, Ore.) sent a long pass from the far side line to senior Fernando Karczeski (Curitiba, Brazil). Karczeski ran under the long pass and blasted a shot past a diving OIT keeper for his team-leading third goal of the season, which knotted the game at 1-all.

With the clock winding down, Corban began to apply pressure offensively that resulted in a corner kick for the Warriors. Sophomore Travis Wells (Springfield, Ore.) took the initial corner kick and sent a lofting pass onto the awaiting head of junior Mark Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.). Mendenhall's header was punched away by OIT's keeper only to find Schubert, who chested the ball down and then unloaded a left-footed rifle shot that flew into the upper right corner for the game-winner.

Following the game-winning goal, Corban applied defensive pressure that withstood a final Owl offensive push en route to securing the much-needed victory.

Junior goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) stood between the pipes for the full 90 minutes for Corban en route to recording three saves. Meanwhile, OIT's Travis Bille registered a game-high six saves for the Hustlin' Owls.

With the win, Corban improves to 5-11-1 overall, including 3-8-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech falls to 3-13-1 overall, including 2-9-0 in conference action. The Warriors will return to the field for the final game of the regular season on Tuesday, October 28th, when they travel north to Portland for a match up with the Thunderbirds of Cascade beginning at 3:00 p.m. ay Williams & Smith Field.
