Concordia's Jackie Hendrickson scored the eventual game-winner with a strike in the 24th minute against EOU on Saturday.
Cavaliers Clinch Ninth Straight CCC Crown
LA GRANDE, Ore.—With a game to go, the Concordia women’s soccer team clinched the 2008 Cascade Collegiate crown with a 3-0 win over Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
With the win, Concordia (16-0-1, 9-0-0 CCC) extended its winning streak to 15 matches with the lone blip on the schedule a 1-1 tie against No. 19 Westmont College in the second game of the year. Eastern Oregon dropped to 5-11-0 overall and 3-6-0 in CCC play.
The conference crown is Concordia head coach Grant Landy’s 10th overall and ninth straight. After a first-round bye, the Cavaliers will host the lowest remaining seed in the CCC tournament on Nov. 5.
Concordia will conclude its 2008 regular season by hosting Northwest Christian (5-12, 2-7 CCC) on Nov. 28.
“It’s a tough accomplishment to get the results day in and day out over the course of the season and I’, extremely proud of how the team has stepped up to the challenge,” Landy said. “But now we have to turn our focus to Tuesday.”
Shortly after coming off the bench, Kaitlyn Tebbs made an immediate contribution with an assist to freshman teammate Jackie Hendrickson for the game’s initial score in the 24th minute of action.
Sami Andrews would give the Cavs a 2-0 lead before intermission with an unassisted blast in the 38th minute and Tebbs would produce a goal of her own a little more than 10 minutes after the break with a shot to the far post after a 40-yard entry pass from senior Jackie Pronovost.
Concordia outshot the Mountaineers 23-to-8 in the contest and produced five corner kicks compared to three for EOU.
Georgie Christensen stopped a season-high four saves for the team’s 11th shutout of the year. In net for EOU, Kalah Minter recorded eight saves while allowing the three goals.
“I’ve made this road trip a lot over the past 12 years, and I always forget how extremely difficult it is to play back-to-back against two great teams,” Landy said. “EOU wasa very physical team. We were better in the second half as we showed a lot of grit and started doing the little things to open up the field for us.”
