ESC's Johnson Scores Second Hat Trick of Season
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Freshman Corey Johnson (Longview, WA) scored his ninth goal for the season, marking his second game with three or more goals, as Evergreen remained in the No. 3 position in the CCC's North Division with a 5-1 win over Northwest Christian.
The Geoducks face Warner Pacific (7-3 CCC, 11-5) Sunday in a makeup match for a game postponed from September. The Knight's sit at second place in the North Division of the CCC and have secured the division's No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Evergreen attacked the Beacon's goal relentlessly today. Sometimes a bit too earnestly with offsides calls against the Geoducks numbering 8 in the first half.
It was however, Northwest Christian that struck first in the 13th minute. Greg Erickson scored the only game for the Beacons on an assist from Jacob Acedo.
Johnson answered with three goals in a row, two late in the first period and one in the second half. Steve Sharp (Olympia, Wash.) assisted Johnson with a cross pass on the first goal, Johnson scored unassisted the second time, with the ball doing a slow-motion roll across the line after the keepers hand softened the blow from the frosh's shot. Matt Curry (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) set up the third goal for Johnson.
Sharp got his first goal of the season after James Pratt's (Bellevue, Wash.) shot was deflected off Beacon's keeper Cuyler Zeigler 10 feet out from the net.
Evergreen junior David Maple (Longview, Wash.) finally put one in after two really close shots minutes before. It was Maple's first goal of the seaon.
After Sunday's game, the Geoducks close the regular season Tuesday against Northwest.
