Owls Shut Out Raiders, Claim No. 3 Seed in CCC Soccer Championships

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.  – Oregon Tech clinched third place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and a first round home playoff game Saturday against Corban College with a 2-0 shutout win over rival Southern Oregon University tonight on Trevor Derrah Field at Steen Sports Park. With the win Oregon Tech improved to 7-2-1 in the CCC and 8-8-2 on the season. Southern Oregon drops to 6-4 in the CCC and 8-10 on the season and will travel to Northwest (7-3, 8-4-2) in Kirkland, WA in the first round of the CCC playoffs.

Oregon Tech was first on the scoreboard when Janelle Stoner (Central Point, OR) scored in the 31st minute on a penalty kick after Tech’s Megan Ross (Medford, OR) was fouled inside the Raider 18. The goal would be the only score in the first half. Oregon Tech out shot Southern Oregon 7-3 in the first half.

Southern Oregon had a couple opportunities in the second half to score but thanks to great goalie play, Senior Jaclyn Unruh (Medford, OR) made several outstanding plays to give the Hustlin’ Owls only their second shut-out of the year. Oregon Tech’s Katie O’Brien sent the large boisterous crowd home happy following up her own shot and scoring with just six seconds left in the game to give Tech the 2-0 win.

For the game Oregon Tech out shot SOU 15-9 with Southern Oregon goalie Jessica Kuehlwien being credited with 7 saves for the game and Oregon Tech goalie Jaclyn Unruh was credited with 8 saves. Each team was whistled for 8 fouls with no yellow or red cards being given.

Oregon Tech will host Corban College (4-5-1, 7-10-1) in the first round of the CCC playoffs this Saturday, November 1st at 3:00pm at Steen Sports Park in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The Owls beat Corban 2-1 last Saturday in Klamath Falls in their only meeting of the year.
