Concordia's Shea Miller scored four goals and two assists against the Beacons on Tuesday.
Cavaliers Complete Undefeated Regular Season with 8-0 Win Over Beacons
BEAVERTON, Ore.—The fifth-ranked Concordia University women’s soccer team capped an undefeated regular season by controlling Northwest Christian with an 8-0 win at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation Complex on Tuesday.
With the win, Concordia (17-0-1, 10-0-0 CCC) also completed its third straight undefeated run through Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
After a first-round bye, the Cavaliers will hill host a semi-final match in the CCC tournament on Oct. 5. Northwest Christian’s (5-13-0, 2-8-0 CCC) season came to an end with the loss.
“I think this team has done a very good job of concentrating on each and every match,” Concordia head coach Grant Landy said. “And when you have that focus special things like this happen. We can enjoy this one for a little while, but we will soon need to take aim at our next goal which is to win the conference tournament.”
Shea Miller (Azalea, Ore.) led the Cavalier attack with her first career four-goal game. Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) and Justine Pronovost (Milwaukie, Ore.) each recorded two goals for the 8-0 margin.
For Miller, the tally ups her season total to 16 goals on the year while Pronovost connected for her 12th and 13th score. Ramback’s haul moved her to 17 on the season to increase her CCC lead.
“Those three along with (Kaitlyn) Tebbs have been our primary goal scorers all year,” Landy said. “But it’s all about setting those players up and the praise should go to the defenders and midfields who have been doing an excellent job of pushing the ball up the field and distributing.”
Miller added two assists for a 10-point haul. Also posting assists for the Cavs were Caitlin Verhofstadt (Silverdale, Wash.), Kaitlyn Tebbs (Bend, Ore.), Kelton McFadden (Boise, Idaho) and Sami Andrews (Camas, Wash.).
The Cavaliers outshot the Beacons 33-to-1 in the contest with Desiree Berry launching the lone shot attempt for NCU. The Cavs deployed three goalies for the shutout with Georgie Christensen (Hillsboro, Ore.) receiving the win and Adrienne Hagen (Orting, Wash.) stopping the lone shot attempt. Leah Flores (Vancouver, Wash.) closed the game out in net for the Cavaliers.
Katelyn Nistler posted nine saves in goal for the Beacons.
“We wanted to tuck this one away and focus in on next week,” Landy said. “Now it’s time to turn to the postseason which has a completely different level to it. We still have a lot of work to do as it’s far from being over from what we want to accomplish.”
