Last Second Goal Sends Lady Yotes Past Southern, 1-0
Box Score
CALDWELL, Idaho - Macy Egerman slotted home the lone goal of the afternoon with just seven seconds remaining in regulation, as The College of Idaho upended Southern Oregon, 1-0, in a Cascade Conference women's soccer match-up at Symms Field.
The freshman took a pass from Chelsea Heffner inside the final 15 seconds, found space at the left corner of the penalty box, and flicked a ball into the right corner of the net, past the outstretched arms of SOU (3-7, 1-1 CCC) keeper Jessica Kuehlwien, for the winner.
Despite a dominating second half by the Yotes (7-3, 3-0), in which they held a 7-0 edge in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, the game seemed destined for overtime. Heffner nearly got The C of I on the board in the 80th minute on a header, but Kuehlwien was up for the task - one of her seven saves.
Southern had their best scoring chance in the fifth minute, as Kelly Cates launched a 35-yard free kick over the head of the keeper, but missed just right. The Raiders would not register a shot over the final 50 minutes of the contest, as the Coyotes won for the fourth-straight time over the Ashland school.
Sadie Hughes and Tracy Diaz combined on the shutout for the Yotes, who won for the third-straight time overall.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow, hosting Oregon Tech at 2 p.m.
