Concordia Soccer Trio Named to CoSIDA All-District Teams

PORTLAND, Ore.—Concordia University seniors Lucas Egenwall, Justine Pronovost and Caitlin Verhofstadt were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division soccer teams on Oct. 30.

The team is selected by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be eligible for CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America® honors, student-athletes must have a 3.20 or better cumulative GPA on a 4-point scale, have sophomore athletic standing, and be a starter or key reserve for their team.

Pronovost, a business administration major from Milwaukie, Ore., was selected to the women’s soccer first team with a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average. Verhofstadt, a physical education major from Silverdale, Wash., was selected to the women’s second team with a 3.83 GPA. Egenwall, a business major from Falkenberg, Sweden, was selected to the men’s first team with a 3.81 GPA.Pronovost, a second-team honoree last season, and Egenwall will move to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. The Academic All-America teams will be released Nov. 17-18.

Pronovost has been recognized as an NAIA All-American the past there seasons, earning first-year honors in 2006, second-team honors in 2007 and honorable mention honors as a freshman in 2005. She is also a three-time NAIA All-Region I and three-time All-Cascade Collegiate Conference player for the Cavaliers. This season, Pronovost has tallied 13 goals and six assists for the undefeated Cavaliers.
Verhofstadt was named as an honorable mention to the NAIA All-American team last season after leading the conference with 16 assists, a total good for a No. 16 ranking in NAIA. She was also bestowed with All-Region I and All-CCC recognition last season. In 2007, Verhofstadt once again lead the conference with 13 assists in 18 matches for the fifth-ranked Cavaliers.

The two seniors have been a part of three straight CCC championship and NAIA national championship qualifying clubs. During their tenure at Concordia, the team has posted a 73-9-5 overall mark and a 39-1-0 record in CCC play. Concordia finished the regular season with a 17-0-1 record and a 10-0-0 mark in league contests.

Egenwall, in his second season with Concordia after two years at Oregon State, has started 17 contests for Concordia this year. He has one goal and three assists on the year. In his first year at Concordia, Egenwall was recognized as a 2007 NAIA All-American Honorable Mention after securing All-NAIA Region I and All-CCC honors. A central midfielder, asked to defend and distribute the ball, Egenwall has helped Concordia outscore its opponents 46-to-18 this season (2.52 gpg vs. 0.99 gapg).
Since his arrival, Concordia has gone 22-3-0 against Cascade Collegiate Conference foes. He helped guide CU to a CCC championship in 2007 for its sixth straight CCC crown.
