DILLON, Mont. - Cold shooting in the first half proved to be their downfall as Northwest U. was defeated tonight by Montana Western, 77-54, in their season opener.

NU fell behind early and trailed at the half, 49-19, but heated up and out scored Montana Western in the second half, 35-28. But isn't wasn't quite enough to make up the deficit. The Eagles were cold in the first half shooting 23% from 2-point range and 33% from the 3-point line. Second half shooting improved to 42.9% and 40% from the trey line. Western shot a hot 50% in the first half, 46% from the 3-point line but cooled to 33% and 28.6% in the second stanza. Montana Western held the rebound edge at 46 to 36.

Colleen Woods (Soph., Shoreline, Wash.) led the Eagles (0-1, 0-0) scoring 19 points while teammate Erika Hornyak (Soph., Everett, Wash.) scored 12 and had 7 rebounds. Senior guard Rachel Mitchell (North Bend, Wash.) had 8 points on the night.

Montana Western (1-0, 0-0) was led by Jamie Lake's 17 points. Alysa Brown put in 16 points and her teammate Stephanie Dana dropped in 11 points.
