The Mounties huddle together to clinch the win on Halloween.
LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon University (17-8, 12-5 CCC) volleyball team celebrated Halloween by taking care of Evergreen State (1-20, 1-15 CCC) in straight sets (25-18, 25-19 , 25-12).
In the first set Eastern jumped out to a 7-1 start but the Geoducks would not go away. TESC closed the gap and got within one at 18-17 before the Mounties went on their second 7-1 run in the game, closing it out 25-18.
The second game was a carbon copy of the first. EOU got out to a fast start and led 10-5, Evergreen battled back to make it a game at 12-8. The two teams traded blows before the Mounties closed the door 25-19. Through the first two games All-America Grace Deboodt had already tallied 9 Kills and 10 Digs for the Mountaineers. The junior finished the night with 15 Kills, 11 Digs and 2 Blocks.
The third and final game was all EOU. After being knotted up at 4 a piece the Mounties pulled away. Eastern held leads of 11-5 and 18-8 before ending the match
Freshman Jessica Lea had another well rounded game with 8 Kills, 18 Assists and 6 Digs. Fellow freshman Emily Sampson added 14 Assists. Senior Sareena Simpson totaled 13 Digs.
The Mountaineers will play again tomorrow night in Quinn Coliseum against Northwest University at 7:00 pm. Lone senior Sareena Simpson will be honored prior to the first serve, so show up early Wear Blue and Get Loud.
