Wortel Goes Out On Top
ASHLAND, Ore. - Like many of the matches before during her career, Southern Oregon senior Mia Wortel came out victorious as she closed out her home career with a 25-8, 25-23, 25-12 victory over Northwest Christian tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders are now 17-9 overall and 15-3 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest Christian dropped to 12-14 overall and 5-12 in conference action.
Wortel, the lone senior on the SOU roster, said goodbye to home fans with six kills, five blocks, four digs and one ace. Wortel will leave SOU among on the leaders in kills, attack percentage and blocks.
Sophomore Leanne Stennett led the Raiders with 11 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Samantha Yutzie came off the bench for nine kills.
Brooke Stribling led the Beacons with seven kills and seven digs.
SOU made quick work of the Beacons in the first and third sets. In the first set SOU hit .462 and held the Beacons to a -.083 and in the third set the Raiders hit .409 compared to the Beacons -.062.
Junior Lindsey Stone had 34 assists to lead the Raiders.
