Knights unable to slow down hot-hitting Owls
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Warner Pacific volleyball team couldn’t keep up with conference-leading Oregon Tech Saturday night, falling in straight sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-10. The Knights drop to 5-7 (3-7 Cascade Collegiate Conference) while the Hustlin’ Owls improve to 14-3 (9-1 CCC).
The hot-hitting Owls proved to be too much for the Knights, connecting for a .429 attack percentage for the game and steadily increasing as the match went on, moving from .321 in the first set to .500 in the third. Krista Wooley had a game-high 11 kills for the Owls, while Kara Veach also recorded 11 kills for the Knights. Megan Christensen and Nicole Andrews each added nine kills for OIT, while Leah Gradwohl chipped in nine for WPC. Krystie Vea had a game-high 11 digs for Oregon Tech, while Molly Webb paced the Knights with six.
After falling behind 16-10 midway through the first set, the Knights managed to cut the lead to 20-16 before the Owls pulled away for the 25-17 win. Set two followed a similar pattern, with the Knights staying close in the early going until the Owls rattled off 8 of 10 points midway though to go ahead 20-10. The third set was a forgettable one for the Knights as Oregon Tech took an early 7-2 lead and never looked back as they cruised to the 25-10 win.
The Knights return to action at home on October 10 and 11 when they face Eastern Oregon and the College of Idaho. The Knights conclude their five-game home stand on October 14 with a match against Cascade. All matches will begin for 7:00 PM.
