CCC Players of Week Named in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Golf

The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Concordia senior Joey Graham (Pasco, Wash.) scored four goals in two matches, including a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Evergreen, as the Cavs won a pair of matches. Graham scored in the 54th, 77th and 90th minutes to break open a scoreless match vs. the Geoducks. His four goals came on just six shots. Other nominees: Wondi Ali, Cascade; Antonio Bautista, College of Idaho; Luis Galvan, Warner Pacific.

Defensive – College of Idaho freshman Aaron Reynolds (Boise, Idaho) contributed to a pair of shutouts as the Yotes improved to 7-2-1 with their fifth and sixth consecutive wins. Reynolds totaled two saves in 45 minutes of a 6-0 win over Northwest Christian, then had two saves in 90 minutes of a 3-0 win over OIT. Other nominees: Nathan Salveson, Evergreen; Garrett Staples, Concordia.

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Concordia senior Caitlin Verhofstadt (Silverdale, Wash.) totaled five assists in two matches. Verhofstadt, who has nine assists on the season, recorded two assists in a 7-0 win over Northwest, then added three assists in an 11-1 win over Evergreen. Concordia improved to 11-0-1 on the season. Other nominees: Hailey Bohnet, Eastern Oregon; Brittany Bowman, Corban; Macy Egerman, College of Idaho; Brittney Marshall, Northwest; Chelsie O’Neill, Southern Oregon; Brianna Speed, Evergreen.

Defensive – Northwest Christian sophomore Katelyn Nistler (Vancouver, Wash.) registered eight saves in a 1-0 win over Warner Pacific to help the Beacons to their first-ever CCC victory. Other nominees: Karyn Allen, Corban; Martha Billings, Eastern Oregon; Sadie Hughes, College of Idaho; Jessica Kane, Northwest; Samantha Smith, Concordia.

Golf

Male – none selected

Female – Concordia junior Lindsay Aho (Brush Prairie, Wash.) tied for fourth place at the Grand Canyon Women’s Fall Invitational after firing a seven-over 151. Aho helped the Cavaliers to a ninth-place team finish.


Volleyball

Player –Northwest Christian sophomore Cassie Bishop (Winston, Ore.) had 21 kills and 28 digs to help the Beacons to consecutive 3-0 sweeps over Evergreen and Northwest. Bishop ended three of six sets with kills. Other nominees: Grace Deboodt, Eastern Oregon; Natalie Forgan, Cascade; Kandice Gleaves, Evergreen; Megan Spinks, College of Idaho; Krista Wooley, Oregon Tech; Mia Wortel, Southern Oregon.

Libero – College of Idaho sophomore Whitney Owen (Caldwell, Idaho) recorded back-to-back career-high 17-dig matches as the Yotes posted 3-0 victories over Concordia and Corban. Other nominees: Mercedes LeClaire, Northwest Christian; Kim Lindow, Concordia; Maggie Rivers, Southern Oregon; Sareena Simpson, Eastern Oregon.

Setter – Southern Oregon junior Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore.) earned Setter of the Week honors for the fourth consecutive week. Stone had 74 assists, four digs and four aces as the Raiders defeated Warner Pacific and Cascade. SOU improved to 11-7 on the season. Other nominees: Whitney Hoff, Northwest Christian; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Naomi Reimer, College of Idaho.

Cross Country

Male – Concordia senior Eric Burck (Ephrata, Wash.) solidified himself as one of the NAIA’s top runners with a runner-up showing at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem. Burck finished second in a field of 301 runners, timing 24:46.33 over the 8K course. Burck’s finish helped Concordia to a fifth-place team finish in the 30-team field. Other nominees: Seth Bridges, Northwest; Cameron Kreuz, Southern Oregon; Kiprotich Langat, College of Idaho; Cam Starner, Eastern Oregon.

Female – College of Idaho sophomore Stephanie Helm (Challis, Idaho) recorded the fastest 5,000-meter time in C of I history at the Charles Bowles Invitational. Helm clocked 17:56 and had the highest finish (fourth) among NAIA runners. The Yotes finished seventh as a team. Other nominees: Marcella Bosch, Eastern Oregon; Carli Moller, Corban; Lindsey Wagner, Northwest.
