Evergreen Improves Conference Record with 2-0 Win Over Corban
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen Men's Soccer improved their Cascade Conference record to 2-4 today when they defeated the visiting Warriors of Corban College 2-0. Saturday Evergreen travels to Klamath Falls, Oregon for a game with Oregon Tech (2-3 CCC) as the battle for a spot in the conference playoffs intensifies among teams.
Just one minute into the game Evergreen was given a freebie when Daniel Steffen of Corban was given a yellow card inside the box. Shawn Farrow took the kick for ESC but an accurate assumption by Warrior keeper Aaron Franklin read the low shot and deflected the ball out of danger.
The majority of the first period was evenly played with pushes and pullbacks by both teams. Evergreen took the lead in shots with 7 in the first period.
Evergreen broke through Corban's defense with less than two minutes remaining as a downfielded ball was picked up by Farrow. Farrow dribbled down the right side and center passed to Obed Kouassi who scored from 10 feet out. It was the third season goal for Kouassi and second assist for Farrow.
Corban had two on target shots in the second period that were saved by ESC keeper Nate Salveson and improved their shot number to 6 while ESC had 7 in the period.
With 11 minutes to go again Corban had a foul in the box and Matt Curry had a one on one shot. Curry's shot found open net to the right for his third season goal.
The win will be a needed morale booster for the team, who lost two well played games this past weekend to the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the CCC.
ESC's overall record improved to 3-8 while Corban's slipped to 4-7-1.
