Lady Yotes Lose Opener at No. 15 Westminster
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Westminster College hit 13 three-point baskets and forced 28 College of Idaho turnovers, as the NAIA Division I No. 15 Griffins upended the Lady Yotes, 109-84, in Behnken Field House.
The Griffins (3-0) jumped out to a 35-15 first half lead, as Alisha Leader scored 16 of her 27 points in the opening period - however, the Coyotes would rally, cutting the margin to 47-38 on a ShaNae Horner bucket, and trailed by ten at the break.
The Lady Yotes (0-1) could not keep up the pressure, as Westminster scored the first ten points of the second half and led by as many as 33 in the contest - as The C of I allowed the second-most points in school history.
Transfer Katie Strunk led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds in her C of I debut, while Christon Vander Esch had 16 points, seven rebounds, and six blocked shots.
Three Westminster players scored 20-or-more points - Keisha Catten led the Griffins with 28 points, Leader had 27, and Alexis Tucker scored 20.
The Yotes return to action on Monday, traveling up I-15 to Ogden for a 6 p.m. exhibition match-up with Weber State.
