Lady Yotes Grab 71 Boards in Rout of Northern New Mexico
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - ShaNae Horner scored a career-high 25 points as The College of Idaho withstood a poor shooting night to up their win streak to four, defeating Northern New Mexico College, 81-61.
Despite missing 57 field goal attempts, the Lady Yotes (4-1) recorded a school record 71 rebounds - including 32 offensive boards, in the lopsided win. The team broke the old record of 67 rebounds in a win over Bethany in the 2001-02 season.
The first-year Eagles (2-6) kept the game close, trailing just 47-42 midway through the second half, before the Coyotes got an Alexandria Allen lay-up to spark an 11-0 charge, capped by a Horner bucket, to put the game away.
The Yotes won despite a woeful shooting night from starters Christon Vander Esch and Nicole Gall, who went a combined 1-for-28 from the field. Vander Esch did have 12 rebounds and Gall had ten boards in the victory.
Katie Strunk and Nicole Bruce added double-doubles - Strunk with 16 points and ten boards, with Bruce scoring 11 points to go with ten rebounds.
NNMC got 15 points and nine rebounds from Torreya Edwards in the loss.
The Lady Yotes will meet Holy Names tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the tournament finale.
