REDDING, Calif. – Senior Ashley Connell (Spokane, Wash.), sophomore Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.), and freshman Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.) scored nine points each, as Corban's women's basketball team dropped its final game at the Simpson Invitational to San Diego Christian, 72-61, inside the Heritage Student Center.

After playing back-to-back nights against Simpson and Concordia-Irvine, tenth-year head coach Terry Williams and the Warriors concluded their play in Northern California in the consolation game of the first-ever Simpson University Invitational.

Unfortunately for Corban, its first-ever meeting with the Hawks of San Diego Christian ended with an 11-point loss as SDCC converted 30-out-of-46 free throws and out-rebounded the Warriors, 40-35, on the afternoon.

"(San Diego Christian's) free throw and rebounding advantage was the difference in the game," commented Williams. "Early on, we grabbed a 9-5 lead and then were stuck on nine for quite awhile as (San Diego Christian) climbed back into the game."

Despite holding a four-point lead (31-27) at the half, Corban came out flat over the game's final twenty minutes. The Warriors' lack of execution allowed the Hawks to grab the lead, as San Diego Christian continued to extend its lead until the final margin of eleven.

"We came out flat at the beginning of the second half," said Williams. "Not executing down the stretch allowed San Diego Christian to climb back into the game, as we sent them to the line too many times and they took advantage of that in order to pick up the victory."

Along with the aforementioned trio, freshman Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) and junior Monique Tribble (Coquille, Ore.) added eight and seven points respectively. Connell and Steigleman pulled down a team-high six rebounds each for the Warriors, while senior Kailey Bostwick (Medford, Ore.) and Miller handed out a team-best two assists each.

As a team, the Warriors shot 21-for-63 (33.3%) from the field that included 3-for-16 (18.8%) from beyond the three-point line and 16-for-21 (76.2%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, San Diego Christian was 19-for-50 (38.0%) from the field to go along with a 4-for-13 (30.8%) performance from beyond the arc and a 30-for-46 (65.2%) showing at the free throw line.

San Diego Christian was led by Dorchella James' game-high 32 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field and an 18-for-24 showing at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Crystal Quinones and Lara Herzog added eight points each to go along with James' game-high 13 rebounds for the Hawks.

With the loss, Corban drops to 1-2 on the young season. On the other hand, San Diego Christian improves to 1-1 overall this season. The Warriors return home on Saturday, November 22nd, when they host the Redhawks of Simpson beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
