Lady Owls Trim Red Hawks 67-62
Klamath Falls, Ore – Oregon Tech’s Kellie Morey (Redmond, OR) scored 16 points all in the second half to lead Oregon Tech past Simpson University 67-62 Tuesday night at Danny Miles Court. With the win Oregon Tech moves to 6-0 on the season. Simpson drops to 1-8 with the loss.
In the first half the two team’s battled with 7 lead changes and one tie. Simpson led by as many as 7 points at 28-21 with 1:18 left in the half but Tech cut the Simpson lead to 28-25 as the teams hit the locker room. Oregon Tech shot 11-39 28% and a very poor 1-16 (6.3%) from three point range in the half with Simpson shooting 10-27 (37%) in the half and 4-9 (44%) from long range.
In the second half Tech tied the game at 30 with a Lisa Busch (Marist, OR) three pointer then took the lead at 33 -32 with another Busch three with 17:10 left to play. Tech grabbed its biggest lead of the night at 50-41 with 12:00 to play on an Aundrea Albright (Central Point, OR) offensive rebound and put back. Simpson cut the Tech lead to 54-51 with 6:00 to play and then trimmed the lead to 64-62 but couldn’t get any closer as The Hustlin’ Owls pulled away to win 67-62.
Oregon Tech’s Nicole Morgan (Port Angeles, WA) had a double-double grabbing a game high 16 rebounds to go along with 13 points. Kellie Morey had 16 points all in the second half to lead OIT in scoring followed by 15points from Amanda Johnston (Myrtle Point, OR) and 13 points from Lisa Busch. Simpson was led in scoring by Paige Barrett (Shelton, WA) who had 13 points followed by 12 points from Dominique Simmons (Tacoma, WA). Tech finished the game shooting 23-69 (33%) from the floor and 6-30 (20%) from 3-point range. Tech won the battle of the boards 49-39. Oregon Tech finished with 18 Assist led by 7 each from Meagan Miyasaka (Honolulu, HI) and Nicole Morgan.
Oregon Tech will now head to Ashland, Oregon to play Menlo University Friday night, November, 21st and Holy Names University Saturday night, November 22nd in the SOU Raider Classic. The Lady Owls next home game will be Saturday, November 29th when they host William Jessup University at 5:30pm at Danny Miles Court.
