BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) scored a game and season-high 25 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds, as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Loggers of Puget Sound, 95-84, Thursday evening inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

In the Warriors' home opener, seventh-year head coach Justin Sherwood took his squad onto the floor looking to pick up its first victory of the season and ending an early one-game skid.

Sophomore Ian Logan (Aloha, Ore.) scored the game's opening basket before UPS canned its first of six three-pointers on the night to take an early one-point lead (3-2) a mere 42 seconds into the game. A tip-in by Logan and a jumper by junior Paul Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) returned the lead to the Warriors (6-5) before the visiting Loggers took the lead for good on a lay-in by Jason Foster with 16:52 remaining in the opening half. The Warriors would get within a single point (9-8) following a lay-in by Clay Martin before Puget Sound would push its lead to as much as nine (47-38) following a buzzer-beating lay-in by Conner Gehring to end the opening twenty minutes of play.

In the second half, Puget Sound quickly pushed its lead to double digits (55-44) following three straight lay-ins by Foster with 18:17 remaining in the game. The visiting Loggers would push their lead to as much as 18 points (78-60) via a 23-16 run over a span of eight minutes and ten seconds. The Warriors would cut the lead in half (88-79) via a 19-10 run with 3:27 showing on the clock thanks to a traditional three-point play by senior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.). Unfortunately that was as close as Corban would get, as Puget Sound used a game-closing 7-5 run for the final margin of 11 points (95-84).

Along with Martin's scoring performance, Douglas and junior Ben Potloff (Keizer, Ore.) added 13 and 12 points respectively off the bench. Paul Martin chipped in with 11 points and a game-high tying six assists, while freshman Erik Cronrath (Battle Ground, Wash.) pulled down a team-high five rebounds for the Warriors.

Puget Sound was led by Robert Krauel's team-high 17 points, while Foster and Antwan Williams added 16 and 15 points respectively. On the boards, Krauel pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with Williams' game-high tying six assists.

As a team, Corban shot 30-for-57 (52.6%) from the field, while registering a 6-for-15 (40.0%) performance from beyond the three-point line and an 18-for-26 (69.2%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, Puget Sound shot 35-for-66 (53.0%) from the field to go along with a 6-for-19 (31.6%) showing from three-point land and a 19-for-25 (76.0%) performance at the charity stripe.

With the loss, Corban falls to 0-2 on the young season compared to Puget Sound's perfect 3-0 mark this season.
