Justin Parnell tied a career high with 32 points in 109-77 win over Bethany University.
Oregon Tech Throttles Bruins
Klamath Falls, Ore. – Point guard Justin Parnell scored 17 of his game-high 32 points in the first half to propel No. 1 ranked Oregon Tech to a 109-77 win over Bethany University in the second game of the Midland Empire Liberty Northwest Tournament tonight at Danny Miles Court. Oregon Tech remains perfect at 6-0 on the season, while Bethany drops to 2-3 overall.
The Owls jumped to a quick 12 point lead, but the Bruins were able to cut the lead to only 4 points, making it 26-22 Owls with 9:21 remaining in the first half. The Owls rolled from their, when a 21-6 run pushed the Tech lead to 47-28, and heading to the half with a comfortable 20 point lead, 52-32.
At the 15:39 mark of the second half the Owls broke the game wide open. Parnell hit for a perfect 5-5 from beyond the 3-point line, in the four minute stretch, to start a 17-4 run that pushed the Owl lead to 84-45. Oregon Tech then gained their biggest lead of the game of 44 points at the 10:48 mark, before cruising to the final of 109-77.
Parnell tied a career high with 32 points on 12-19 from the floor, including 8-13 from 3-point range. Jguwon Hogges hit for 15 points followed by Christian Cavanaugh with 14 and Josh Wetzler 12. Myles Daley grabbed a game high 8 rebounds followed by Parnell with 6 boards to go along with 4 assists.
George Golden II led the Bruins with his double-double 30 points and 10 rebounds followed by Kenny Thompson with 16 points and Jason Maples dropping in 10.
Bethany meets Southern Oregon in tomorrow’s 5:30 game, while No. 1 Oregon Tech will face No. 4 ranked Lee University at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of the Midland Empire Liberty Northwest Tournament.
