PLU Downs Northwest University, 61-51
PARKLAND, Wash. - Cool second half shooting for the Northwest University Eagles and a hot shooting by Pacific Lutheran led the Lutes to a 61-51 non-conference victory over NU on Saturday night in Olson Auditorium.
Northwest U. (1-3) cut PLU's lead to one point, 47-46 (5:43), on a three-point shot by Erika Hornyak, but the Lutes responded with a 9-0 run, as Jen Sorensen three point shot from the left corner would give PLU a ten point 56-46 lead with 2:58 remaining.
Senior guard Dani Drivstuen ( Monroe, Wash.) led Northwest U. (1-3) with 16 points while teammate Erika Horynak (Soph., Everett, Wash.) contributed 12 points for the Eagles. Senior point guard Rachel Mitchell (North Bend, Wash.). Northwest shot 43% for the first half but cooled to 34% in the second half.
Emily Voorhies scored 16 points to lead the Lutes. Trinity Gibbons tallied 12 points, six rebounds and five assists for the PLU, who also got 10 points from Sara Backstrom. Nikki Scott led the Lutes with a game high eight assists.
The Eagles will play again on Monday afternoon in the Pavilion as they host the Walla Walla University women at 4 p.m.
