LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon Mountaineer Women's Basketball team (2-1) closed out the Aramark Holiday Classic with a 65-60 victory over the Bulldogs of the University of Montana-Western. Junior Tana Stickney just missed a double-double with twelve points and eight rebounds, while senior Jenny Fiso filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight assists and five assists.
Eastern Oregon jumped out to an early 13-4 lead and would take a 34-28 lead into the halftime intermission. The lead would swell to sixteen points with ten minutes left, but the Bulldogs put together a rally in the final ten minutes to cut the lead to as little as four. The Mountaineers would hit their free throws down the stretch and seal the deal with a final of 65-60.
The Mounties got a big spark off the bench from sophomore Alyssa Garro, who scored game-high thirteen points in just twenty minutes of action, as she was limited by foul trouble. Junior Saleena Leavitt chipped in with ten points and handed out five assists. For the Bulldogs their post combo of Chole Mosley and Alysa Brown had eleven points and six rebounds for Mosley and ten points and five rebounds for Brown.
Stickney and Fiso, who were both named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team, were joined by Rochelle Reeves of Pacific University, and Mosley and Brown of Montana-Western. The Mounties will now travel to Caldwell, Ida. to play in the College of Idaho Yote Classic. On Friday, November 28th, they will play Linfield College at 5:00 p.m. MST. On Saturday, November 29th, they will face Willamette University at 1:00 p.m. MST
