OIT's Cavanaugh, Evergreen's Lee Named CCC Players of Week
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Nov. 17-23.
Men’s Basketball
Oregon Tech senior center Christian Cavanaugh (Mill Valley, Calif.) averaged 18.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in helping the No. 1-ranked Hustlin’ Owls to a 3-0 record.
In leading host OIT to the championship of the Midland Empire Insurance Classic, the 6-10 Cavanaugh totaled 32 points and seven rebounds as the Hustlin’ Owls posted a 109-77 victory over Bethany (Calif.) and a 77-64 win over Lee University (Tenn.), the fourth-ranked NAIA team at the Division I level. Cavanaugh had 14 points and three rebounds vs. Bethany and 18 points and four rebounds vs. Lee, and was named to the all-tournament team.
Cavanaugh also had 27 points and seven rebounds vs. Multnomah.
OIT, the NAIA’s defending Division II national champion, is off to a 7-0 start.
Women’s Basketball
Evergreen senior forward Rosalind Lee (Oakland, Calif.) was named the most valuable player of the Maritime Cup in Vallejo, Calif., after leading the Geoducks to their first-ever tournament title.
The 5-11 Lee totaled 29 points, 24 rebounds and four steals as the Geoducks posted victories over host Cal Maritime (73-59) and Maine Maritime Academy (63-47). Lee had 17 points and 18 rebounds in the win over Maine Maritime.
Evergreen is 2-0.
