Tech's Justin Parnell Dished Out 13 Assist in Win Over The Masters
Owls Improve to 9-0 Despite Poor Outside Shooting
Ashland, Ore. - Despite shooting only 4-22 (18.2%) from the 3-point line and 7-17 (41.2%) at the free throw line, Oregon Tech was still able to capture their ninth win in as many tries with an 81-63 victory over The Master's College tonight at McNeal Pavilion in Ashland. The Owls remain unbeaten at 9-0 on the season.
Oregon Tech broke a 6-6 tie wide open when Justin Parnell sparked an 18-6 run with two free throws and a 3-pointer to go up 12 points. The Owls then went up 14 points, their largest lead of first half, at 38-24 with 3:18 remaining. The Master's was able to cut the deficit to single-digits at the intermission with Tech leading 40-31.
Oregon Tech still held the nine point advantage at 52-43, before a 9-2 run gave the Owls some breathing room at 61-45 with 10:07 on the clock. Oregon Tech then methodically put the game away. Tech gained leads of 20 points and then 24 points, the Owls largest lead of the game, on a Josh Wetzler dunk to put the game out of reach at 78-54 with just over two minutes to play. Oregon Tech then settled for the final margin at 81-63 over NAIA Division-I The Master's College.
Christian Cavanaugh led the Owls with a double-double 15 points and 12 boards followed by a double-double 14 point and 10 rebound effort from Josh Wetzler. Jguwon Hogges finished with 13 points and Mike Nieraeth with 10. Justin Parnell dished out a game high 13 assists while netting nine points and grabbing 7 rebounds.
Oregon Tech plays Simpson University tomorrow in the second day of the Southern Oregon Stratford Inn Classic beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Ashland.
