Pilots Pull Away in Second Half in Exhibition Against the Cavs

PORTLAND, Ore.— Playing the first of four NCAA Division I opponents in the Concordia women’s basketball exhibition season, the Cavs kept in close in the first half before falling to the University of Portland 84-58.

Behind layups from Ann Snodderly and Danielle Clauson, Concordia went up 4-0 in the opening minutes. Concordia would enjoy a lead with the score 14-13 midway through the first period but the Pilots would surge down the stretch, pulling away with seven of the final 10 points of the half to take an eight-point lead into the locker rooms with the score resting at 37-29.

Clauson cut the deficit back to single digits for Concordia with a layup and a follow-up free throw with 12 minutes left in the game, but Portland would regain the margin with an 11-point run to make it 60-40 with 10 minutes remaining. .

After shooting 44.8 percent in the first half, the floor opened up for the Pilots as they converted 65.4 percent in the second. The Cavaliers also improved in the second period with 44 percent shooting in the second after a 34.5 percent performance in the first. CU scored 29 points in each half.
With eight different players scoring for Concordia, Clauson led the Cavs with 14 points and four steals while Snodderly led the team with five rebounds. Four players reached double figures for the Pilots with Laiken Dollente leading the way with 19 points off of 7-of-10 shooting.

Concordia returns to the court on Nov. 8 when it travels to Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. The following day, the Cavs will face Washington State University in Pullman. CU closes out its exhibition portion of the schedule at Oregon State on Nov. 11.
