Vaughan, Ochs Power Cavs Past Multnomah
PORTLAND, Ore.— Behind 48 combined points from Steven Vaughan and Matt Ochs, Concordia defeated Multnomah 115-82 in men’s basketball action on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 19-5 led in the first four minutes and never looked back in the contest. Shooting 45.4 percent in the first half, CU posted 53 points for a 21-point lead entering the locker room. The shooting percentage improved in the second half with the Cavs firing at a 66.7 percent clip.
Leading the way, Ochs paced the team with 11-of-13 shooting for a career-high 22 points while Vaughan recorded a game-high 26 points off of 10-of-16 shooting. Ochs also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to complete the double double.
Led by Jacob Fischer’s 17 points, the Lions had five players in double figures. Multnomah launched 56 attempts from three-point range, converting 17 for a 30.4 percent exchange.
“Without Desmond (Meray) and Alex (Thiefenthaler), a lot of other guys got a chance to step up and get solid minutes. We got contributions from a lot of different people tonight, including Jourdan (Sweeney) and Connor (Hambelton) bringing a lot of excitement off the bench,” Concordia head coach Brad Barbarick said.
Concordia will next take the floor with a pair of exhibition contests against NCAA Division I programs, beginning with Oregon State on Nov. 8 and Boise State on Nov. 11.
“We are looking forward to that great experience,” Barbarick said. “We are going to have to execute better and work hard on the boards as we will be undersized, but we certainly look forward to the challenge.”
