Morgan Has Double-Double to Lead Owls Past Red Hawks

Redding, CA – Nicole Morgan (Port Angeles, WA) scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as the Oregon Tech women’s basketball team kicked off a three game road trip with a 60-54 win at Simpson University. With the win Oregon Tech improved to 2-0 on the very young season. Simpson dropped to 0-4 with the loss.

Simpson took a 24-23 lead to the locker room at the half and led 28-25 in the second half before the Hustlin’ Owls went on a 11-0 run to take the lead 36-28 with 13 minutes to play. The Red hawks then battled back and tied the game at 44 with 7 minutes left in the game. Simpson grabbed the lead back 50-49 after Paige Barrett (Shelton, WA) sank a pair of free throws with 2:50 left on the clock. Tech’s Lisa Busch (Eugene, OR) tied the game at 52 with a three pointer at the 1:45 mark. The two teams battled back and forth but with just 16.9 seconds left in the game it was Busch again coming up with 2 free throws to give Tech the lead to stay at 56-54. Nicole Morgan then stole the ball and was intentionally fouled. After Morgan made both free throws putting Tech up 58-54 Amanda Johnston (Myrtle Point, OR) was then fouled and she also made both free throws as Tech won 60-54.

Oregon Tech was led in scoring by Amanda Johnston with 15 points. Nicole Morgan had 13 points and 11 boards with Lisa Busch adding 12 points and Meagan Miyasaka (Honolulu, HI) dropping in 11 points and 6 assists. Simpson University was led by Dominique Simmons (Tacoma, WA) with 10 points. For the game the Owls shot 17-62, 27% from the floor and just 6-24, 25% from long range. The Owls did shoot free throws well making 20-25, 80% for the game.

The Lady Owls will continue on the road playing at Dominican University on Saturday, November 8th at 5:30pm and at Pacific Union on Sunday, November 9th at 6:00pm.
