Cascade Moves to 3-0 With Win Over HNU
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Cascade men's basketball team defeated the visiting Hawks from Holy Names University, 101-87 last night in a non-conference game.
Facing their second California Pacific Conference opponent in a week, Cascade used a small line-up, and a hot shooting second half to secure the victory. The T-Birds went 19-for-30 (63.3%) in the second half including 3-for-5 (60%) from behind the arc. Cascade had a balanced scoring attack as 5 players finished in double figures and almost half of the points (43) came from the bench.
"We knew coming in that Holy Names would be bigger and stronger at every position, but we felt that we could be successful if we shot the ball well from the outside," Head Coach Anthony Baugher stated. "Our bench play really was the key tonight. Our starters did what was expected, but the play of Josh Brown and Kao Saelee really put us in a position to win the game down the stretch."
Josh Brown was one of several great performances in the game. He scored 28 points, 9 which came from the charity stripe. Along with the points he added 7 rebounds and 1 assist. Josh also had the highlight of the game when he connected with an alley oop pass from Kao Saelee and dunked over 2 defenders to break the game open in the second half.
Ben Pawlak added 23 points in 30 minutes of action; he also had 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Elliot Barker finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist in 21 minutes. Kao Saelee had 13 points and 8 of the team's 20 assists. Tommy Allen added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.
"It really is enjoyable when the guys play so hard and with such passion," Coach Baugher stated. "They did a great job of representing Cascade tonight, the college should be proud."
