Thunderbirds Give Back
PORTLAND, Ore. - This past Tuesday, the men's basketball program visited the Blazers Boys and Girls Club and put on a free 5-hour basketball clinic.
When former T-Bird Tayo Cotton called senior captain Ben Pawlak and asked if he could bring a couple of current players down to the Blazers Boys and Girls Club it was a slam dunk for the rest of the team.
"Coach is always preaching to us about putting others before ourselves, so when Ben asked if I wanted to be involved I really jumped at the opportunity," Junior point guard Jared Mace stated. "I remember going to camps and I know how much of a positive impression the staff left on me."
Cascade players were able to set-up drillls and offer instruction to over 100 campers who participated in the free clinic. T-shirts were given out as prizes during contests and games and one of the highlights of the clinic was the dunk contest won by Josh Brown.
"We know that this is the last year for the college and basketball program, so we want our legacy to be different from years past," Senior shooting guard Ben Pawlak stated. "Sure we want to win basketball games, but we also want to be remembered for giving back to the community."
It was so important to the team, that the entire roster showed up for the clinic. "I am so proud of our young men," Head Coach Anthony Baugher said. "This entire clinic was their idea, from start to finish. It really shows the character of this group of players. I am honored to be their coach."
