EOU's Templeton Steals Spotlight

La Grande, Ore. - On Friday night Eastern Oregon University point guard Jeremy Templeton helped guide the Mounties to a 97-82 road win over Montana Tech. In typical Templeton fashion his stat line was not flashy, 5 points, 2 assists, one rebound but most importantly. . . one win.
Against the Orediggers Templeton tallied 6 steals, bringing his career total to 133, surpassing Mitch Despanie's 128 for first place on the all-time list at EOU. Templeton has plenty of time to put some distance between himself and Despanie's eleven year old mark with at least 21 games still left on the schedule.
While his play often times gets overlooked by the casual observer, Head Coach Ryan Looney understands just how much he means to the Mountaineers, "We think his personal success should be judged on our winning percentage, his assists to turnover ratio and his defensive effort."
Since joining the starting line-up as a sophomore the team has a combined record of 55-15 (78%), Templeton dishes out close to two assists for every turnover and he just became the schools all-time steals leader with a career average of 1.3 per game.
The senior from Spokane, Washington is quick to point out he has had plenty of talent around him, "I am grateful to have been selected on a team of such excellent players through my collegiate career and want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates for all the hard work which allowed me to be successful and grow as a student athlete."
Templeton also has a great chance at breaking EOU's career assist record this season. He currently sits just 56 assists behind Despanies record of 407. At his current pace (5 per game) Templeton should have plenty of time to rewrite that part of the record book as well.
