Corban's Ohta Signs Second Official Recruit for 2009-10 Season
SALEM, Ore. – Second-year head coach Nathan Ohta continues to add to his list of recruits for the 2009-10 season, as he announced today the signing of current Gladstone High School senior Tamara Feb (Oregon City, Ore.) to a Letter of Intent.
"I am excited that Tamara has chosen Corban College as the place to continue her softball career," said Ohta. "She is an extraordinary defensive catcher and a phenomenal hitter that will have an immediate impact for us both offensively and defensively. Tamara is a type of player and person that every coach loves to have in their program, and I could not be more pleased that she will be a part of Warrior softball next year."
Feb, a 5-foot-9 catcher, helped lead the Gladiators to back-to-back Capital League championships in 2007 & 2008, while earning 2nd team All-Capital League honors following her '08 junior season.
"I chose Corban because I really like it here," commented Feb. "Everyone is friendly and I think I can build my relationship with God better at Corban than other schools."
As a junior, Feb hit .490 with 11 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Feb registered 25 hits in 51 at-bats, while walking 12 times versus only three strikeouts. Defensively, Feb recorded 99 putouts to go along with 12 assists while recording a mere one error. Base runners did not fair too well against Feb during her junior campaign, as she threw out all seven runners that were attempting to steal and recorded a fielding percentage of .991 in the process.
Feb helped lead Gladstone to a win-loss record of 14-4 and a No. 9-ranking in the final 2008 4A coaches' poll, while also helping lead the Gladiators to the 4A state semifinals that resulted in a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to eventual state champions and top-ranked Marist High School.
Following her sophomore season, Feb was named 1st team All-Capital League and all-state after helping guide Gladstone to the 4A state quarterfinals. Feb helped Gladstone finish the '07 season ranked 3rd in the state along with Yamhill-Carlton before the Gladiators fell to eventual state champions and No. 2-ranked Central in the state tournament.
Besides her high school career, Feb is also a member of the ASA Oregon Slammers that finished fifth at Western Nationals this past summer.
Feb, who will join former Gladstone teammates Jessie Jones and Brittany Wagner on the Warrior softball team in 2010, is the second member of the Class of 2013 joining current Horizon High School senior Nicole Sikes who signed a Letter of Intent in May.
