Northwest U. Falls to #25 George Fox
NEWBERG, Ore. - #25 George Fox (NCAA D-III) defeated Northwest University in a non-conference contest tonight, 71-55.
George Fox jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first half and never trailed. Northwest would pull to within 6 points (26-20) on Alexa Breidenbach's 3-pointer with 5:29 left in the first half and go on an 8-3 run to pull to within one point, 29-28 with 4:24 left in the half. George Fox would hit 5 out of 6 freethrows in the final 1:26 of the half to take a 34-28 lead into the locker room.
GFU (5-0) would out score the Eagles of Northwest 15-6 to start the second half and would lead the entire second half with their largest lead growing to 26 points (70-44) at the 4:48 mark.
Freshman forward Carleigh Newman (Ferndale, Wash.) led Northwest (3-7, 1-1) with 12 points while teammate Jessalyn Jackson (Fresh., Vancouver, Wash.) would add 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Eagles. NU shot 42% for the game and lost the rebound battle to GFU, 37-31. Junior Alexa Breidenbach (Lynnwood, Wash.) added 9 points for the Eagles.
George Fox was led by Keisha Gordon's 17 points. Teammate Sage Indendi added 16 and Arianna Mohsenian dropped in 13 for the Bruins who shot 44% from 2-point range and 43% from the 3-point arc.
Northwest U. will travel to Monmouth, Oregon for a 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon match-up with Western Oregon, a NCAA Division II opponent.
