LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon Mountaineer women's basketball team (5-3, 1-1 CCC) dropped a close game to the Missionaries of Whitman College (8-0), 80-74. The Mountaineer offense exploded for 47 second half points, but it was not enough to overcome the 27-37 halftime deficit.
Eastern Oregon was led by junior Ashlee Michelson who had 25 points and five rebounds, while senior Jenny Fiso had 23 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out five assists. Sophomore Alyssa Garro gave the Mounties a spark off the bench with thirteen points and five rebounds of her own.
The Mountaineers trailed early against the Missionaries, but made seven of their eleven three-point attempts in the second half, cutting the lead to as little as five. However, the Mountaineers were plagued by 21 turnovers in the contest, and Whitman made their foul shots down the home stretch of the game, going 17-19 on the evening.
Eastern Oregon will have a quick turnaround as tomorrow they will travel to College Place, Wash. for a showdown with the Walla Walla University Wolves. That game is scheduled for Saturday, December 13 and tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. PST.
