Southern Oregon improved to 7-0 with its win over Simpson Tuesday.
SOU Women Rout Simpson
ASHLAND, Ore. -- The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon women’s basketball team tuned up for Cascade Conference play with an 88-53 rout of Simpson tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders improved their program-best start to 7-0 overall. Simpson fell to 2-12 overall. SOU opens up Cascade Conference play Friday and Saturday when they host Eastern Oregon and 19th-ranked College of Idaho.
“I thought we came out and put a two good halves together,” SOU Head Coach Lynn Kennedy. “It was nice to see us play like this because we have a pair of big conference games this weekend and it starts Friday with Eastern Oregon.”
The Raiders have now won 20 straight home games and 33 of the last 36 games overall dating back to the beginning of last year.
Tonight it was a balanced effort that led SOU to victory. Juniors Whitney Scott and Ashley Baker both finished with a game-high 15 points. Scott added nine assists and Baker went for nine rebounds. Junior Jacki Speer had 12 points and six rebounds and Carly Wood came off the bench for 11 points.
The Raiders shot 49 percent from the field, including a 11-for-22 effort from 3-point land.
Paige Barrett led Simpson with 14 points.
SOU held Simpson to 25 percent shooting in the first half and 31 percent for the game.
