KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University men rebounded from last night’s tough overtime loss to OIT to defeat Southern Oregon, 94-65, this afternoon in a Cascade Conference game.

NU would break out to an early 12-6 lead but Southern Oregon would battle back to take a 17-16 lead on Trevor McKay’s offensive tip in off a Joe White jumper with 12:16 to go in the half. The Eagles’ Eddie Coulson would sink two free throws to put NU back into the lead (18-17) and would then lead 32-27 with 5:13 left in the half when SOU would again battle back and regain the lead, 33-32 on Austin Wolfer’s jumper (3:45). Northwest would tie the score at 35 a piece and then out score the Raiders 6 to 3 to take a slim 41-38 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, Northwest would get off to a quick start out scoring SOU 15-2 to lead by 16 points, 56-40, at the 16:40 mark. Junior Daley Landon’s 3-pointer would help to increase NU’s lead to 21 points (65-44) with 14:57 ticks left on the clock. The closest SOU would get would be 67-52 on Josh McDermott’s jumper with 13:17 left in the game, but Northwest U. would go on a 14-6 run to increase their lead 81-58 with 6:12 to go in the game. Greg George’s lay-up would give NU its biggest lead at 90-61 with 2:07 left as the Eagles cruised to their third CCC victory and ninth over all.

Greg George (Soph., Seattle, Wash.) would score his second consecutive double-double with a game high 21 points and 12 rebounds for Northwest (9-4, 3-1). Freshman forward Jason Waltman (Monroe, Wash.) would record his career high with 20 points and 8 rebounds while teammate Lucas Ashe (Soph., Spokane, Wash.) scored 15 points. Eddie Coulson (Senior, N. Las Vegas, Nev.) would contribute 13 points for the Eagles. NU out rebounded SOU, 55 to 33 including 15 offensive rebounds. The Eagles shot 48% from 2-point range and an impressive 50% from the 3-point arc (11 for 22).

SOU (3-8, 1-2) was led by senior Josh McDermott’s (Ashland, Ore.)  14 points. Jarrad Childs (Jr., Paso Robles, Calif.) would add 11 points and 4 rebounds for the Raiders who shot 39% for the game. SOU was held to 21% shooting from the 3-point line and managed 39% shooting from the free throw line going 9 for 23.

Northwest U. will now take a break for the holidays and will resume CCC play on January 2 while SOU will play Willamette University on December 29 in an non-conference contest.
