Second-Half Surge Lifts OIT Over Eastern Oregon

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.---After trailing 39-37 at the halfway point, No. 13 ranked Oregon Tech used a huge second half to roll past No. 10 Eastern Oregon 96-79 in Cascade Conference play at Danny Miles Court. The win puts the Hustlin’ Owls at 19-4 overall and 10-3 in CCC play, tied with Eastern Oregon for first place in the conference standings. EOU drops to 17-4 and 10-3 in the CCC.


After trailing by two points going into the locker room at the half, Tech used a 15- 7 run to begin the second half to go up by six, 52-46. Ryan Fiegi (SR. Medford, OR), who was unstoppable tonight, hit a 3-pointer at the 14:46 mark to take their first double digit lead of the evening and make it 59-49. EOU would cut the lead to six, but Tech would get it back to 10 points and eventually kick it to a 16 point lead at 73-57 with 8:43 left to play. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->The Mountaineers would cut the lead back to single digits with under six minutes, but the Hustlin’ Owls would get a quick basket and not look back, rolling to the final of 96-79.

Ryan Fiegi would lead all scorers, pouring in 33 points on 11-21 from the field and hitting on 9-11 from the charity stripe. Fiegi would also hand out a game high nine assists. Josh Wetzler (JR. Perth, AUS) remains strong, dropping in 21 points and grabbing a game high nine rebounds. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->Mike Nieraeth (SO. Bonanza, OR), the only other Owl in double figures, was good for 12 points on 2-2 from beyond the arch. <!--[endif]-->
Eastern finished with three players in double figures with Mark Carollo and Dan Blanchard both finishing with 19 points, followed by Paul Carollo with 16 points. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->Mark Carollo led the Mountaineers with eight rebounds while Jeremy Templeton finished with four assists.<!--[endif]-->
