KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (February 1, 2008)---The No. 17 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers handed the Lady Owls their first home defeat of the season by a score of 56-50 at Danny Miles Court. The loss drops Tech to 16-7, 8-5 CCC and the win improves EOU to 18-2 and 12-1 in conference action.
Tech jumped to a quick 7-1 lead to start the game but a 16-6 EOU run would give the Mountaineers a 17-13 lead. Tech would tie the game at 18-18 with 9:10 remaining in the first half, but another EOU run of 15-7 would give Eastern a halftime lead of 33-25.

An Eastern 3-pointer to start the second half gave them their first double-digit lead of the game and it would be almost four minutes into the half before Tech would score. Tech would chip away and eventually cut the lead to five points with 6:00 on the clock 47-42. A strong Tech defense and a Meagan Miyasaka (JR. Honolulu, WI) jumper at the two minute mark would cut the lead to only three points at 49-46, but was as close as it would get, as EOU would convert their free throws down the stretch and secure a 56-50 victory.

Cora McVey (SR. Dexter, OR) finished with a strong double-double effort with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jenna Ball (SR. Scappoose, OR) was the only other Owl in double digit points with 11, while Amanda Johnston (JR. Myrtle Point, OR) finished with nine points and four rebounds.

EOU’s Elise Hawes would finish the night with a double-double of her own with 14 points, all in the first half, and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. Tiffanie Ulmer would finish with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Sheena Henderson and Breana Olson both scored seven points for EOU.

The Lady Owls will host College of Idaho on Saturday 2/2, with tip-off set for 5:30 pm. The Lady Owls fell to the Lady Yotes in Caldwell 74-66 in the first round of CCC play on 11/30.
